In 1612, 19 women & men from villages around around Pendle Hill, were accused of witchcarft and taken before "The Powers", the local magistrate.
They were held in Lancaster Castle in dreadful conditions for a number of months when on August 12th they were put on trial, found guilty and hanged.
Although the tale of the Pendle witches is very sad, thet have achived an international reputation, as people from all over the world flock to this beutiful part of the UK to find out more.
